This journey offers your students an immersive, hands-on opportunity to engage with real-world conservation projects in Sumatra. They will help restore orangutan habitats, support ethical anti-poaching elephant rangers, and foster a lifelong commitment to wildlife protection. Equip the next generation of environmental stewards with practical experience and global awareness.

Day 1: Arriving, Medan

Arrive in Medan and transfer to the SOS/OIC Replanting Centre at Halaban. Tour the reclaimed forest where Palm Oil plantations are being converted back to native rainforest. Learn about orangutan habitat restoration and participate in hands-on planting. Overnight in a small cottage on the grounds.

Day 2: Conservation Project Work

Today, you will continue your vital work at the Replanting Site, assisting the local team with site maintenance, nursery work, and further reforestation efforts. This direct action supports the survival of endangered species by restoring their natural habitat. Overnight in the cottage on site.

Day 3: Tangkahan and River Adventure

Drive to Tangkahan, a community-based ecotourism destination famous for its wonderful jungle scenery. We will take a small punt across the river and check into your accommodation. Before dinner, enjoy a refreshing river walk followed by river tubing downstream to a beautiful waterfall. The focus shifts to local community-led conservation efforts.

Day 4: Elephant Wildlife Rangers & Observation

Visit the nearby Tangkahan Conservation Response Unit (CRU). These elephants assist rangers with anti-poaching patrols and jungle monitoring. Drive to Bukit Lawang, check into your accommodation, and head to the feeding platform for respectful observation of semi-wild Orangutans. Dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 5: Jungle Trek and Camping

Start your second day trek into the Gunung Leuser National Park. We will head into the hills on the other side of the Bohorok River. You will have the opportunity for fauna spotting: Orangutans, Thomas Leaf Monkeys, Pigtail Macaques, Longtail Macaques, Gibbons, Lizards, and more. Our camp will be close to a stream on the Bohorok River. Overnight in tents.

Day 6: Return to Bukit Lawang

Awake to the natural sounds of the jungle. We will continue our jungle trek and head back towards Bukit Lawang. Once back, we will check into our guesthouse and then have free time to wander around town and maybe have a swim in the Bohorok River.

Day 7: Wampu River Rafting & Medan Tour

Experience an exhilarating Whitewater Raft adventure on the Wampu River (Grade 3 maximum, perfect for beginners), which snakes its way through pristine rainforests and deep canyons. We will make a stop off at a natural hot spring that spills into the Wampu. Afterward, we will drive to Medan to check into our guesthouse. From there, we will take in a tour of the city, learning about its fascinating history and people.

Day 8: Departure

Transfer to the airport for your flight back home. The program details will vary slightly depending on your departure time.
